Good Samaritan Finds 6 Newborn Puppies Abandoned At Condo Dumpster, Animal Shelter Seeks Info

NEW HAVEN, CT — Six newborn puppies—estimated to be less than one day old—were found abandoned in a basket near the communal trash bin at a condo complex located at 121 Lexington Ave. in New Haven, the Robin I. Kroogman New Haven Animal Shelter reported Sunday night.

A good Samaritan found the puppies and contacted the shelter. "Your quick action saved lives," the animal shelter shared on social media. Though one of the pups did not survive; the shelter, officially an operational division of the New Haven Police Department, noted.

"Leaving hours-old puppies in a basket by a dumpster is not only cruel—it is illegal," the shelter noted. "There are always better options, and we are here to help."

The five remaining puppies are in the care of a "dedicated rescue partner," the shelter noted and thanked the organization.

As of its 9 p.m. Facebook post, four pups were "stable, but one is fighting for their life and is not doing well."

The shelter seeks the community's help to find the person or persons "responsible for leaving these defenseless neonates outside to perish."
