NEW HAVEN, CT — The city announced the New Haven Afterschool Initiative, a new program that will provide low-cost and free afterschool programming for up to 2,000 K to 8th grade students at New Haven Public Schools beginning this school year.
In a statement released by the office of Mayor Justin Elicker, it was noted that the new program builds on the success of the New Haven Tutoring Initiative that provided free math and literacy tutoring and enrichment two to three times per week.
The New Haven Afterschool Initiative will provide low-cost and free afterschool for up to 100 students per school at NHPS elementary and middle schools every school day from school dismissal to 5:30 pm, according to Elicker.
