Double Shooting In West Hills Leaves 1 in Critical Condition With Life-Threatening Injuries: PD (patch.com) — Residents in New Haven's West Hills neighborhood are reeling after a backyard double shooting near Judson Avenue and Mead Street left two men wounded, one with life-threatening injuries. Police were called Wednesday evening and are continuing to investigate, with more details expected as the situation develops.
   

2. New Haven Man, 21, Gets 28 Years For December 2022 Murder Of 16-Year-Old Student Joshua Vazquez: State's Atty (patch.com) — New Haven residents are learning that 21-year-old Angelo Gibson Jr. has been sentenced to 28 years in prison, plus 10 years of special parole, for the 2022 murder of 16-year-old New Haven student Joshua Jose Vazquez. Prosecutors say Gibson's mother, Latasha Brown, drove the car as he opened fire on Vazquez while he rode his bike on Valley Street, and she received a suspended 15-year sentence after serving 2½ years for hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence.
   

3. Schools OK $656k Math Curriculum (newhavenindependent.org) — New Haven's Board of Education has approved a $656,299 contract to keep using the i‑Ready math curriculum for PreK–8 students, blending textbooks, in‑person teaching, and online work. Union leaders and district officials now want to study how much classroom screen time New Haven kids get, especially amid concerns about data privacy and developmentally appropriate technology use.
   

4. Milling and Resurfacing on Route 17 in New Haven and North Haven (ct.gov) — Nighttime milling and resurfacing on Route 17 from Route 80 in New Haven to Spring Road in North Haven will run September 8 through October 2, with lane closures from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Drivers from New Haven should expect changing traffic patterns, follow posted signs, and allow extra time as CTDOT's resurfacing program moves through this busy corridor.
   

5. America's Story Through A Catholic Lens (newhavenindependent.org) — A long-running exhibition at the Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center on State Street explores how the New Haven–founded Knights of Columbus grew alongside U.S. history and battled anti-Catholic prejudice. Through factory-made artifacts from New Haven and Waterbury and documents like the infamous "Bogus Oath," the show highlights working-class Catholic life and the organization's roots in protecting vulnerable families.
