Cocktails and the Collector: June 25 art auction and show
A Ridgefield Historical Society and Ridgefield Guild of Artists collaboration
The Ridgefield Historical Society and the Ridgefield Guild of Artists are joining forces to present “Cocktails and the Collector” on Thursday, June 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Guild, 34 Halpin Lane.
This collaboration, celebrating the Guild’s monthlong Mad for Modern Art Exhibit and a special auction of original 20th Century artwork, marks the beginning of the Historical Society’s new “Mad for Modern” programming focused on the architecture, design and built environment of Ridgefield’s modern and postmodern era.
The auction items, generously donated from the Segelstein family’s private collection, include signed lithographs by Salvador Dali and Peter Max, along with original etchings by Etienne Ret and work by Ludwig Bemelmans, the writer/illustrator of the beloved children’s books featuring Madeline, and a prolific contributor to The New Yorker. The works will be on display at the Guild during the Mad for Modern exhibit, June 6-28, and there will be an online opportunity to bid, beginning June 1.
