Spook-tacular Creative Writing Course Coming to Ridgefield

Muse Squad invites students to a spook-tacular creative writing adventure titled “Witchcraft & White Mice”, inspired by Roald Dahl’s The Witches. Through this transformative course, students will explore a world of mystery and magic as they develop their creative writing skills.
Roald Dahl’s 1983 dark fantasy novel, The Witches, follows a young English boy and his grandmother in a world where witch societies exist in every country. These societies are led by the all powerful Grand High Witch and have one goal in mind; turn all of the children of England into mice. Dahl’s imaginative nature invites readers into a world where the line dividing ordinary and extraordinary is blurred, witches hide in plain sight, and the most fantastical possibilities become real to all who choose to dive deeper.
In Witchcraft & White Mice, students explore this imaginative world while experimenting with their own creative writing. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with character ideation, world-building, and storytelling on a number of different levels as they develop their own original pieces inspired by Dahl’s universe.
The course will take place at the Ridgefield Parks & Recreation Center, located at 195 Danbury Road Ridgefield, CT 06877. Beginning September 30th, Muse Squad will offer two age-based sessions for young writers: students ages 8-12 years old will meet from 4:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., while writers ages 13 and up will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. With a session for participants of different experiences and ages, the Witchcraft & White Mice adventure will continue through December 16th.
Muse Squad’s supportive environment encourages participants to take creative risks and discover their voices. The fantastical themes and elements of The Witches are nothing short of inspiring, as students refine their own stories and draw from the novel’s imaginative world.
