Derby Youth Service Bureau To Host Medication Take Back Day Event
The event will be held in collaboration with the Derby Police Department and the Naugatuck Valley Health District.
DERBY, CT — The Derby Youth Service Bureau will host a medication take back day event later this month in Derby.
According to a news release provided by the Youth Services Bureau, the event will be held Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bradley School, located at 155 David Humphrey Road in Derby.
The event is part of the National Medication Take Back Day initiative and will be held in collaboration with the Derby Police Department and the Naugatuck Valley Health District, according to the release.

"In response to the ongoing public health crisis and the alarming rise in overdose deaths across the country, this initiative aims to safely collect unused and unwanted prescription drugs," the release reads. "By preventing these medications from falling into the wrong hands, we can help reduce the risk of misuse, addiction, and the transition to dangerous illicit drugs, many of which are often laced with deadly substances such as fentanyl."
According to the release, Medication Take Back Day is "a crucial step in our efforts to combat the opioid crisis and prevent overdose tragedies in our community."

The following items will be accepted during the event, according to a flyer included with the release:
• Over-the-counter medications.
• Prescription medications.
• Medication samples.
• Medications for household pets.
• Medicated lotions or ointments.
• Vape devices (battery must be removed).
The following items will not be accepted, according to the flyer:
• Needles or other "sharps."
• Hazardous waste.
• Thermometers.
• Personal care products (shampoo, etc.).
The Youth Services Bureau encourages everyone to participate in this important initiative and help make a positive impact on public health and safety, according to the release.
