Southington To Benefit From Two Stop & Shop Food Drives In August

Two food drives at Southington Stop & Shop on Aug. 1-2 and Aug. 9 will collect donations for Southington Community Services.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Southington residents will have two opportunities in August to help stock the shelves at Southington Community Services by donating nonperishable food items during separate drives at the town's Stop & Shop supermarket.

The first food drive will be held Saturday, Aug. 1, and Sunday, Aug. 2, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Stop & Shop in Southington, 505 N. Main St.

The event is being organized by Central CT Kidz, with donations benefiting Southington Community Services.

A second collection will take place the following weekend on Sunday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Stop & Shop, 505 N. Main St.

Southington Lions ClubThe drive is sponsored by the Southington Lions Club, with all donations also supporting Southington Community Services.

Organizers are seeking donations of nonperishable foods, including:

  • School snacks
  • Canned goods
  • Chef Boyardee products
  • Cereal
  • Pasta and pasta sauce
  • Fruit snacks and fruit cups
  • Crackers, including cheese and peanut butter crackers
  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Juice boxes
  • Rice
  • Shelf-stable side dishes
  • Individual chips and snacks
  • Mac and cheese
  • Tuna
  • Applesauce

Both organizations are encouraging residents to contribute, noting that even small donations can help local families facing food insecurity.

Donations collected during both events will be distributed through Southington Community Services to residents in need.
