Southington HS Student Honored For Artistic Endeavors
The Southington BOE recognized an SHS student for her Silver Key award in the Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards.

SOUTHINGTON —School officials recently honored a very artistic Southington High School student for her prowess in earning a significant honor recognizing her talent.
The Southington Board of Education recognized Southington High School student Brianna Moos on Feb. 19 for earning a Silver Key in the Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards.
During the board’s “Celebration of Excellence,” Southington High School Principal Joseph Madancy introduced Moos, who received the award for her graphite self-portrait drawing titled “The Little Things In Life.”

The Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards competition includes public, parochial, and private schools across the state and is widely regarded as a leading high school art competition.
Moos was honored at the Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards Conference at the University of Hartford’s Lincoln Theater.

Her work was also displayed in the Connecticut Region Scholastic Art Exhibit at the Silpe Gallery at Taub Hall at the university.
SHS art teacher Sara Levinthal praised Moos’ dedication and growth as an artist.
“Her artwork reflects not only technical mastery but also patience, perseverance, and a deep respect for the creative process,” Levinthal said. “Along with her technical excellence, she is truly a valued presence within the classroom community.”
Levinthal said it has been a privilege to watch Moos continue to challenge herself and develop her skills.
“I am confident Ms. Moos will continue to find success in all she pursues,” she said.
Southington Board of Education Chairman Zaya Oshana congratulated Moos on both her artistic technique and her conduct in the classroom.
He presented her with a Certificate of Excellence on behalf of the board.
The Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards program recognizes students in grades 7 through 12 across more than 18 artistic media categories, awarding Gold Keys, Silver Keys, and honorable mentions.
Artwork from the 2026 competition was exhibited Jan. 12–30 at the University of Hartford’s Silpe Gallery.
