South Windsor Feeling Effects Of Arctic Blast
Bitter temperatures and strong winds are impacting the town, prompting the state to activate Severe Cold Weather Protocols.
SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A blast of arctic air is currently impacting South Windsor, bringing dangerously cold temperatures and strong winds across the area through midday Wednesday.
Town officials said Tuesday is the coldest day of the stretch, with high temperatures only reaching about 15 to 25 degrees — roughly 10 to 15 degrees below normal for this time of year. Gusty winds between 20 and 35 mph are also occurring from Monday night through Tuesday, making conditions feel even colder.

Wind chill values have dropped into the negative single digits to single digits Tuesday morning and are expected to remain in the single digits in many locations throughout the day. Temperatures Tuesday night are also expected to fall into the single digits.
Because of the dangerous cold, the governor has activated the state’s Severe Cold Weather Protocols from Monday, Jan. 19, through noon Wednesday, Jan. 21.

Town officials are reminding residents that warming centers are open during normal business hours at the South Windsor Public Library, 1550 Sullivan Ave., and the South Windsor Senior Center, 150 Nevers Road. Residents are urged to check each facility’s website for current hours and to take precautions to stay safe during the extreme cold.
