📰 News we're reading

• Stratford speed cameras ticket thousands of drivers in first month (ctpost.com) — Nearly 4,900 drivers were ticketed in July by Stratford's new school-zone speed cameras, generating at least $243,000 that must be reinvested in program costs and transportation improvements. Town officials say speeding near Nichols, Second Hill Lane, and Bunnell High is down 80 percent, and report mostly positive feedback even as nearby Fairfield and Milford face louder backlash over similar technology.

• Stratford shelter seeks donations after helping dog in 'heartbreaking condition' (ctpost.com) — A Stratford rescue group is asking for donations after taking in Wiley, a severely emaciated German shepherd found near Roosevelt Forest without a collar and missing a leg. Stratford Animal Rescue Society, which works with town Animal Control, says his intensive veterinary care is straining resources as they continue helping many other local animals.

• Developer files scaled back 19-unit housing plan in Easton, Trumbull (ctpost.com) — A regional developer working in Stratford and other area towns is pushing a scaled‑back, 19‑unit affordable housing proposal on the Easton–Trumbull line that's drawing strong neighborhood opposition. While the project itself isn't in Stratford, the developer's growing footprint in nearby communities could signal similar workforce housing efforts that may eventually reach Stratford and influence broader regional housing debates.
