Weekend Lawnmower Fires Keep Vernon Firefighters Busy

VERNON, CT — The Vernon Fire Department had to contend with a rash of lawnmower fires over the weekend.

"The past two days have brought multiple lawn mower fires as homeowners are doing fall cleanups," fire officials said on Sunday. "The dry weather has heightened the fire risk with lawn equipment."

There are preventative steps, they said.

"Remember to not overfill baggers, allow equipment to cool before storage in sheds or garages, and blow off leaves and dust from the equipment afterwards. Call 911 if you experience a fire emergency," fire officials said.
