Free Document Shredding For West Hartford Residents This Weekend

WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford residents will have an opportunity to safely dispose of sensitive documents during a free paper shredding event on Saturday, May 16.

The event, hosted in conjunction with the West Hartford Public Works Open House, will run from 9 a.m. to noon, or until the shredding truck reaches capacity.

It will take place at the side entrance of 17 Brixton St.

The service is available only to West Hartford residents, who must present identification. Commercial businesses will not be accepted.

Residents may bring up to two copy-paper-sized boxes, or the equivalent amount of paper, measuring about 9 by 11 by 18 inches. Plastic bags, junk mail, and envelopes will not be accepted.

Organizers are asking residents to bring only sensitive documents for shredding and to recycle non-sensitive paper materials through curbside collection programs before arriving.

Infoshred LLC out of East Windsor will shred documents on-site before transporting the material to its secure facility for additional shredding and processing.

According to the company, the paper will then be recycled into products such as tissue paper, paper towels, and dental bibs.

Officials will also collect non-perishable food donations during the event to support the local food pantry.

Drivers approaching from New Park Road are asked to turn onto Oakwood Avenue.

The West Hartford Department of Public Works side entrance is located just past Brixton Street on Oakwood Avenue, where signs will direct traffic.

Because the event is expected to draw large crowds, officials noted that shredding services will end once the truck is full.
