West Hartford Launches Social Group To Help Seniors Build Friendships (patch.com) — West Hartford seniors have a new way to meet neighbors and ease loneliness through the Circle of Friends social group at Town Hall, running Mondays from Oct. 5 to Nov. 23. Open to residents 60 and older, the program offers themed activities like gentle walks, creative projects, and mindfulness, with registration, transportation help, and accessibility accommodations available through West Hartford Social Services.
   

2. Hartford Man, Middletown Man Charged With Stolen Vehicle/Gun Crimes In West Hartford: Police (patch.com) — West Hartford police used an automated license plate reader to track down a stolen BMW M6 on New Park Avenue, leading to the arrests of two men from Middletown and Hartford. One suspect faces motor vehicle larceny charges, while the other is charged with multiple firearm offenses, including illegal possession of an assault weapon. Both were held on significant bonds and scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court.
   

3. 'Potentially life-threatening injuries' reported in rollover crash on I-84 West in West Hartford (wtnh.com) — A serious rollover crash with potentially life-threatening injuries has shut down I-84 West at Exit 45 and closed the Exit 44 onramp in West Hartford early this morning, snarling traffic for local drivers. State police say one vehicle was involved with entrapment, and collision reconstruction teams are on scene as they investigate and urge motorists to avoid the area until the highway reopens.
   

4. West Hartford Bulky Waste Permits Now Available from All American Waste - We-Ha (we-ha.com) — West Hartford residents now must arrange curbside bulky waste pickups directly with All American Waste, rather than obtaining permits from the town. The new system, effective Oct. 1, 2026, lets you schedule service and pay fees through the hauler, using a menu of item-based prices and a phone or online customer service portal.
   

5. What we know about the Middletown homicide and Hartford shootout (ctinsider.com) — West Hartford police were pulled into a dramatic regional case when a license plate reader spotted a Middletown homicide suspect's car in town, sparking a late-night chase into Hartford and an exchange of gunfire. Officers were unhurt, but the suspect and an uninvolved juvenile suffered non-life-threatening wounds, while investigators continue piecing together the domestic violence killing and the unanswered questions about the shootout.
