1. West Nile Virus Detected in West Hartford - We-Ha (we-ha.com) — Mosquitoes at Spicebush Swamp in West Hartford have tested positive for West Nile virus, and health officials are urging residents to take extra precautions outdoors. They recommend using repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants at dusk and dawn, and reducing standing water around homes, while also pointing residents to CDC resources for more prevention tips.
   

2. Hall High Students Launch Food Scrap Awareness Survey - We-Ha (we-ha.com) — Hall High School students in West Hartford are asking residents to complete a short survey about the town's food scrap collection program, which now includes 11 drop‑off bins at parks like Fernridge, Wolcott, Beachland, and Sterling Field. Their project with the Department of Public Works aims to understand habits and barriers so the program can be easier and more accessible before the Sept. 30 survey deadline.
   

3. Free Diabetes Workshops Offered For West Hartford Residents (patch.com) — West Hartford residents can sign up now for a free seven-week diabetes self‑management workshop series offered by the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District starting Sept. 22. Participants may choose virtual evening sessions or in‑person daytime sessions in Bloomfield, and a registered dietitian will cover practical strategies for eating well and managing the condition, with advance registration required.
   

4. CT will make childcare free or cheaper for some families in 2027 (ctpublic.org) — West Hartford parents may soon benefit from a major statewide overhaul of childcare costs, with a new Early Start CT program offering free or capped-fee care starting in July 2027. State Rep. Kate Farrar, who represents parts of West Hartford, says the endowment-backed initiative builds on paid leave and will expand childcare slots, with a public hearing on the funding set for October 21.
