West Hartford Teen Launches Storytelling Project Celebrating Town's Global Reach
Her West Hartford Public Library project seeks residents' global stories and invites community participation.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — A new community storytelling initiative in West Hartford is highlighting the diverse backgrounds of residents while encouraging stronger local connections.
“Nations of West Hartford," created by high school junior Linnea Knox in partnership with the West Hartford Public Library, features personal stories from residents who have roots around the world but now call the town home.
Knox said the project aims to connect community members through shared interests, traditions and everyday experiences.

She also hopes it will promote libraries as spaces for engagement and dialogue.
The idea of this project came to her after volunteering at the library’s Faxon Branch in the summer of 2025.

There, she assisted individuals with citizenship applications and supported English language classes.
“I found this work incredibly meaningful, as it reflects my growing interest in the legal field and international relations,” Knox said on the library's website.
During her time at the library, Knox said she spoke with residents about their experiences and backgrounds, gaining a deeper understanding of the town’s cultural makeup.
“By listening to their stories, rich with emotion and personal experience, I gained a greater insight into the different cultures that comprise the town of West Hartford,” she said.
Knox said those conversations led her to create a platform to share such stories more broadly.
“After hearing stories like these on several occasions, I felt inspired to find a way to share them with a broader audience,” she said. “From that moment, Nations of West Hartford was born.”
The project aims to connect residents through shared traditions, hobbies and everyday experiences, while also encouraging greater engagement with libraries as community spaces.
“My goal is to connect members of the greater West Hartford community through shared hobbies, traditions, or simple everyday perspectives,” Knox said.
She added that listening plays a central role in the initiative’s mission. “It is through listening that we learn from each other, and ultimately, grow stronger together.”
The project continues to expand as Knox invites more residents to share their stories.
