“The Hometown Hero Banner Program is a powerful and visible tribute to the brave Westies who served our nation with honor,” Borer said. “Each banner tells a story of dedication and sacrifice, and displaying them along our beautiful Walk of Honor ensures our community will never forget the contributions of our veterans. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating their legacy.”
The 30-by-60-inch banners feature West Haven residents who served in all branches of the U.S. armed forces and all wars.
Each “West Haven Proudly Honors” banner displays each veteran’s photo in uniform, service branch, name, and war or era.
Organizer Beth Sabo of the mayor’s office said the city plans to display all banners for Veterans Day, remove them until Memorial Day and rehang them through Veterans Day.
