Free 'Coastal Conversations' Program To Explore Human Impact On Long Island Sound In West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT — A free community program focused on the human impact on Long Island Sound will be held Sunday, Aug. 9, at Eco Park, according to the City of West Haven.

The program, part of the Coastal Conversations speaker series, will begin at 10 a.m. and feature Colin Puckett of Save the Sound.

Puckett will discuss how everyday activities affect the health of Long Island Sound and the wildlife that depends on it. The program will include a demonstration using Save the Sound's interactive Enviroscape watershed model to show how stormwater runoff and pollution travel from neighborhoods to waterways.

The presentation will also cover green infrastructure solutions aimed at protecting water quality, as well as how heavier rainfall associated with climate change can intensify runoff and pollution challenges. The program will explore how restoring natural landscapes can contribute to cleaner water, healthier habitats and more resilient coastlines.

Coastal Conversations is a free community speaker series that brings experts to Eco Park to discuss the science, environment and future of Connecticut's coastline.

The event is free and open to the public. Eco Park is located at the Old Grove Park Building, 1 Palace St.
