West Haven Overdose Awareness Day Includes Free Naloxone Training, Kits

WEST HAVEN, CT — The West Haven Health Department will hold an Overdose Awareness Day observance on the front steps of City Hall on Monday, Aug. 31, to honor the lives lost to overdose, support grieving families, and reinforce its shared commitment to reduce stigma and save lives.

To show solidarity and support of overdose awareness, Health Director Sheila Carmon is encouraging all city employees and residents to wear purple on Monday.

“Your participation, whether by attending or simply wearing purple, helps raise awareness,” Carmon said. “Thank you for helping us honor this day and strengthen our community.”

The observance will kick off at noon with the reading of a mayoral proclamation recognizing the day and highlighting community efforts to end overdose and support families.

After the reading, from noon-2 p.m., the department will offer free, confidential training to administer naloxone, the opioid-overdose antidote. Free kits will be provided while supplies last.

At night, City Hall will be illuminated in purple to show support for those impacted, Carmon said.
