📰 News we're reading

• Windsor Locks Added To Federal Conservation Funding Area (patch.com) — Windsor Locks has just been added to the federal Highlands Conservation Act area, opening the door for the town and local land trusts to seek significant conservation grants. While no specific Windsor Locks project is named yet, the designation could help protect local open space, wildlife habitat and drinking water resources by pairing federal money with state and municipal funds.

• Windsor Locks Raises School Sports Fee, Adds Drama Charge (patch.com) — Families in Windsor Locks will face higher pay-to-participate fees this school year, with sports now costing $125 per sport and a new $50 charge for drama productions. Income-based waivers and annual family caps are available, but the drama fee isn't eligible for reduced rates, and the changes are tied to revenue built into the 2026-27 school budget after multiple failed town referendums.
