At Cherry Blossom Festival, Volunteers Bring “The Truth About Drugs” Directly to DC Crowds
Outreach effort on the National Mall engages parade attendees through direct, one-on-one conversations
Washington, DC — April 11, 2026 — With the U.S. Capitol in view and thousands gathered for the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade, volunteers with the Foundation for a Drug-Free World conducted an outreach effort focused on drug prevention, engaging attendees along the parade route and across the National Mall.
Throughout the day, volunteers distributed educational materials and spoke with individuals and families attending one of Washington’s largest annual events. Positioned in high-traffic areas near the Smithsonian museums and along Constitution Avenue, the outreach reached a steady flow of residents and visitors watching and participating in the parade.
The effort emphasized direct, one-on-one engagement, with volunteers offering information designed to raise awareness about the effects of drug use and encourage informed decision-making. Many attendees stopped to engage directly with volunteers, often accepting materials and continuing conversations as they moved through the event.
