📰 News we're reading

1. Manatee officials approve Parrish Town Center without this 'issue of concern' (bradenton.com) — Manatee County commissioners have cleared the Parrish Town Center project to move ahead, dropping a controversial cell tower after strong pushback from nearby neighborhoods like Crosswind Point. For Bradenton-area residents, the 48-acre site at U.S. 301 and State Road 62 will eventually bring a grocery store, big-box retailers, restaurants and a gas station, though no tenants or construction timeline are set yet.

2. Argument with parking officer turns physical, Sarasota Police say (mysuncoast.com) — A Bradenton woman was arrested after Sarasota police say an argument with a parking enforcement officer near St. Armands Circle turned physical. Investigators report the Bradenton resident allegedly grabbed the worker's ID badge hard enough to cause pain, leading to an aggravated battery on a public servant charge and her release on supervised pretrial conditions.

3. Gas prices dip in Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice area (mysuncoast.com) — Drivers around Bradenton are seeing a small break at the pump, with average gas prices in the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice area dropping nearly 5 cents overnight to about $3.94 per gallon. Local prices remain just under the Florida average and slightly higher than nearby metros, but are still roughly 78 cents more than this time last year.

4. Record Labor Day Gas Prices Expected: Where To Find Cheapest Gas In FL (patch.com) — Bradenton drivers can currently find one of the area's cheaper gas options at the Sam's Club on 30th Street E, as Labor Day prices hit record highs across Florida. With statewide averages near $3.95 a gallon and global tensions keeping fuel costs elevated, planning fill-ups carefully could save local holiday travelers real money.

5. Q&A: Angie Nixon - WSLR+Fogartyville (wslr.org) — Bradenton-area readers hear how U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon, recently endorsed by The Bradenton Times, is pitching a campaign focused on working families, universal healthcare and subsidized childcare. In a Sarasota interview with Bradenton Times editor Mitch Maley, she explains her strategy to energize "high potential" voters who feel ignored by traditional party politics.
