• Big Melon Contest returns to Panhandle Watermelon Festival; entries due June 25 (washingtoncounty.news) — Growers in and around Chipley can enter the Big Melon Contest by delivering their watermelons to the Washington County Agricultural Center on Jackson Avenue in Chipley on June 24 or 25. The Panhandle Watermelon Festival runs June 26–27, with cash prizes, a grand prize for the heaviest melon, and an auction supporting next year’s event.
   

• Dell S. Gilbert, 73 of Cottondale, Florida Passes on June 9, 2026 (fosterfollynews.net) — Family and friends in the Panhandle are mourning Dell S. Gilbert of Cottondale, a devoted nurse, outdoors enthusiast, and beloved home baker who passed away June 9 at age 73. A private graveside service will be held in Cottondale, with Obert Funeral Home of Chipley overseeing arrangements.
   

• 2026 Committee on Committees report released (baptistpress.com) — A member of First Baptist Church in Chipley, Lance Bush, has been nominated to serve on the Southern Baptist Convention’s 2026 Committee on Nominations. The newly released committee list highlights representatives from churches across the country, giving Chipley a voice in upcoming SBC leadership decisions.
