• Hernando Commissioners to Seek Half-Cent Sales Tax for Road Projects (hernandosun.com) — Hernando County commissioners are moving toward asking voters again to approve a half-cent sales tax dedicated to major road projects and long-term maintenance. With nearly $90 million in top-priority road work and limited gas-tax funding, they favor a sales tax over raising the transportation millage. A draft ordinance will come to a public hearing at an upcoming commission meeting.
   

• Fugitive wanted in 1989 child sexual battery investigation arrested after 35 years (suncoastnews.com) — Hernando County deputies have arrested a man wanted for more than three decades in connection with a child sexual battery case first investigated in 1989. The 68-year-old suspect, long living under aliases, is now held at the Hernando County Detention Center on a $1.6 million bond. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Office detective handling the case.
   

• Saint Leo Softball Now Ranked No. 1 in Div. II (hernandosun.com) — Saint Leo University’s softball team, now ranked No. 1 in Division II, is being led in part by standout players from Hernando County, including Hernando High alum Sydney Cline. Cline and fellow local product Izzy LaRoche are powering a record 31-game winning streak while staying rooted close to home. Their success highlights how North Suncoast talent is driving a potential historic season.
