Middleburg civic leader Maude Jackson to be honored with historical marker (claytodayonline.com) ā A new historical marker at Middleburgās Fire Station 14 will honor longtime educator and civil rights leader Maude Burroughs-Jackson, a former student and principal of the original Middleburg Colored School. The marker, funded through the Florida Womenās Historical Marker Initiative, will highlight her fight to preserve the 1903 schoolhouse and her decades of work expanding educational opportunities for Black residents.

Still, officials warn that extreme drought and wildfire risk remain high countywide, and violations in restricted areas are a second-degree misdemeanor. Grilling is allowed, but fire pits are not in banned zones.
