• Volleyball Recap: New Smyrna Beach Escapes with a Win (maxpreps.com) — New Smyrna Beach High’s volleyball team edged Timber Creek 2-1 on Saturday, then quickly followed with a 2-0 win over Jensen Beach, improving their record to 13-9. Led by standout performances from Sophia Penney and Chloe Cromer, the Barracudas have now stacked back-to-back victories and are building momentum as their tournament run continues.
   

• 10 requests for Volusia ECHO funding go to County Council (news-journalonline.com) — New Smyrna Beach’s Marine Discovery Center is in line for a proposed $1 million Volusia ECHO grant to build a new education pavilion, walkway, and passenger-vessel dock on the Indian River Lagoon. The County Council will weigh this request Oct. 6 alongside other recreation and cultural projects across Volusia County, including upgrades in Edgewater, Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Port Orange, DeBary, Holly Hill, and Osteen.
