ParkVolusia to become single parking registration for Volusia County and New Smyrna Beach by 2027 (wftv.com) — If you park in New Smyrna Beach’s off-beach lots, big changes are coming: by Jan. 1, 2027, you’ll use the countywide ParkVolusia system instead of a separate city permit. Existing ParkVolusia users will automatically gain access, while current city permit holders must switch over before their decals expire at the end of 2026. 
2. Warrant out for ex-New Smyrna Beach High nurse who missed sentencing (bluewaterhealthyliving.com) — A former New Smyrna Beach High School nurse who admitted to serious felony charges involving a student missed his Aug. 5 sentencing after suffering a reported heart attack, prompting a judge to issue a no-bond arrest warrant. Once released from the hospital, he will be taken to jail to await a new sentencing date on charges that could bring decades in prison.
3. Good Samaritans rescue driver from submerged car at New Smyrna Beach boat ramp (fox13news.com) — Two bystanders pulled a disoriented driver from a sinking car at a New Smyrna Beach boat ramp after it sped off North Causeway into the water, and firefighters say seconds made the difference. The driver is recovering, and the New Smyrna Beach Fire Department plans to formally honor the rescuers at an upcoming City Commission meeting.
