With Orlando Health as founding partner, the evening will honor figures like Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and Red Lobster president Damola Adamolekun, and draw top political and business leaders for networking.
   

2. Ukrainians in Florida face uncertainty as TPS deadline nears (mynews13.com) — Ukrainian residents in Orlando are scrambling for answers as federal Temporary Protected Status is set to lapse on October 19, creating confusion over licenses, jobs, and legal standing. A local immigration attorney says TPS is automatically extended six months, but warns that agencies like the DMV and law enforcement may not recognize it, leaving families anxious about work, school, and possible detention.
   

3. Mass layoffs reported at two Orlando companies (clickorlando.com) — Two Orlando employers, AssistRX and Hancock Whitney, have filed notices of major layoffs that could affect well over 100 local workers in coming months. AssistRX plans reductions at its Sand Lake Road center starting this fall, while Hancock Whitney will cut dozens of positions at its West Pineloch Avenue location as part of a restructuring.

New album by Orlando shoegazers Mary's White Lie enchants and intrigues (orlandoweekly.com) — An Orlando-based band, Mary's White Lie, has released a new EP, Stable of Stone, that's drawing attention for its blend of shoegaze textures and introspective indie rock. Local musicians Brett Bissey and Dylon Webb lead the project, which grew from a Will's Pub cover contest into a full quartet now streaming their debut songs everywhere.
   

5. Meg's Law takes effect in Florida, banning nitrous oxide sales in smoke shops (fox35orlando.com) — A new Florida law taking effect now bans smoke, vape, and convenience shops from selling or even stocking nitrous oxide, with violations bringing third-degree felony charges. The change follows the death of Clermont resident Margaret "Meg" Caldwell outside an Orlando smoke shop, and Orlando-area retailers can expect increased scrutiny as statewide enforcement ramps up.
