1. Beach police recognized statewide for traffic safety (wjhg.com) — Panama City Beach police have sharply reduced traffic deaths and crashes on local roads, earning third place in a statewide traffic safety challenge. Chief J.R. Talamantez credits a renewed focus on traffic enforcement and impaired drivers, along with standout work by Officer Robert Moss, recently named Florida’s Drug Recognition Expert of the Year for the second time. 
2. Fatal PCB DUI crash lands Marion County man 12 years in prison (ocala.com) — A Marion County man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a 2023 drunk-driving crash on U.S. 98 in Panama City Beach that killed 79-year-old Iris Sue Johnson. Prosecutors say his blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, and the victim’s family agreed to the plea deal to avoid a trial while still securing a near-maximum sentence.
3. Florida officials scale back oyster harvesting after Apalachicola Bay reopens (eenews.net) — From a meeting in Panama City Beach wildlife officials announced they’ll nearly halve the number of oyster bags allowed from Apalachicola Bay in the next season to protect the recovering fishery. Commercial and recreational harvesters will see limits drop from 4,940 to 2,560 bags starting in October as the state tries to balance economic activity with long-term restoration.
