Chicken Salad Chain To Open First Sarasota County Restaurant (patch.com) — Sarasota County food lovers are getting a new option as Chicken Salad Chick opens its first local restaurant on Fruitville Road, with a grand opening set for Sept. 29 and giveaways lasting through Oct. 3. The Sarasota location, owned by local franchisee Karen Jordan, will feature indoor and patio dining, delivery, catering, and an appearance by Dick Vitale supporting pediatric cancer research.

City Hopes $50,000 Deal Will Clean Toxic Dump Site and Transform Newtown (lbknews.com) — Sarasota is moving ahead with selling and rezoning the long-contaminated Marian Anderson Place landfill in Newtown, aiming to turn it into a healthcare campus and light industrial hub. Commissioners unanimously reset key cleanup deadlines and tightened rules to prevent heavy recycling or concrete-crushing uses, while developers commit to a state-supervised $4.5 million remediation and job-creating project for North Sarasota.

Florida Silver Alert Issued for Missing 88-year-old in Sarasota County (bocapost.com) — An 88-year-old man, George Mason, is missing from North Venice in Sarasota County, and a Florida Silver Alert has been issued to help find him. Residents across Sarasota County are urged to watch for the described individual and report any sightings immediately to the Venice Police Department at 941-316-1201 or by calling 911.
   

4. Man charged with attempted murder after Sarasota stabbing (mysuncoast.com) — A 19-year-old man has been charged with attempted second-degree murder after a late-night stabbing at a Sarasota home on Lahaina Drive, deputies say. The victim was rushed to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for emergency surgery and is expected to survive, while deputies used pepper-ball rounds and a K-9 to arrest the suspect after he allegedly refused to come out.
   

5. Rodent droppings temporarily close popular downtown Sarasota restaurant (miamiherald.com) — Health inspectors temporarily closed Michelle's Brown Bag Cafe in downtown Sarasota after finding rodent droppings, while several other Sarasota and Venice spots earned perfect inspection scores.
