SARASOTA, FL — A Sarasota man remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition after officials say he opened fire on sheriff's deputies early Sunday morning.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office identified the injured suspect as Casey King, 39, who is accused of shooting at deputies outside of his home at 4818 Hoyer Drive.
According to the sheriff's office, the incident began around 12:19 a.m. Sunday when authorities responded to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of a McDonald's at the intersection of Bee Ridge Road and Cattlemen Road.

Investigators subsequently determined that King had returned to his residence on Hoyer Drive, prompting patrol deputies to respond to the home.

Upon arrival, officials said deputies established positions around the residence while one deputy used a marked patrol vehicle with its siren activated to make repeated announcements ordering King to surrender and exit the home.
The sheriff's office then said King opened fire on deputies positioned in front of the residence, prompting one deputy to return fire and strike King multiple times.
King was taken into custody and transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he remained in critical but stable condition Sunday.
The sheriff's office said King faces five counts of attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer in connection with the gunfire directed at responding deputies.
Additional charges are expected in connection with the earlier shooting at McDonald's.
This is the second officer-involved shooting in Florida over the weekend, with Patch previously reporting that a 79-year-old man killed during a welfare check in Brevard County on Saturday.
