TAMPA, FL — Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies and a Florida Highway Patrol trooper safely rescued a 5-week-old kitten stranded along Interstate 275 after a brief foot chase on Tuesday. Watch deputy-worn bodycam footage from the rescue below.

Deputies spotted the kitten in distress on the southbound side of I-275 and stopped to help, HCSO said in a social media post.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper also responded after a woman driving by, Donna Watson, called to report the kitten.

The video shared by HCSO shows a deputy and a trooper chasing the tiny kitten along the highway’s shoulder before eventually catching him.

Watson, who watched the rescue, became emotional as the kitten was taken to safety.

“My precious baby. No, no, no, don’t run into traffic,” she can be heard saying in the video. adding. “I know you’re scared.”

After the kitten was captured, Watson thanked the rescuers through tears.

The kitten was named Dash and has since been adopted by the deputy’s family, HCSO said.

HCSO said Dash is now safe, well-fed and “living his best life.”
