Son apparently having trouble keeping up dead parents' home in The Villages (villages-news.com) — A home on Andrews Ave. in the Village of Sunset Pointe has fallen into deed compliance trouble after neighbors reported overgrown grass and other maintenance issues following the deaths of longtime Villagers Anthony and Annette Caruso. Their son, now living in the house, has seven days to fix remaining violations or face ongoing maintenance charges from the District.

2. Jane Orwick (theprogressortimes.com) — A longtime Villages resident, Jane Elizabeth Orwick, 74, passed away May 28 at Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages. Born in Ohio and later settling here with her late husband Robert, she leaves behind siblings in Ohio and Georgia. Per her wishes, there will be no local services; her ashes will be interred later in Findlay, Ohio, and memorial gifts are suggested to Cancer Patient Services there.

3. $1.4M fire training facility and special needs shelter opens near Sumterville (wesh.com) — A new $1.4 million fire training facility and large-capacity emergency shelter has opened just north of Sumterville, where Sumter County Fire and The Villages Public Safety crews will now train together. The 25,500-square-foot complex can house about 900 people during emergencies and will showcase its capabilities during a public “America 250” event on June 26.

4. 82-year-old man arrested in theft of woman's purse at Publix in The Villages (villages-news.com) — An 82-year-old man was arrested after deputies say a purse left on a bench outside the Publix in The Villages’ Spanish Plaines shopping center was taken and later traced through surveillance video. Investigators recovered enough evidence to charge him with felony theft from an elderly victim, and he is being held at the Sumter County Detention Center on bond.
