Riley (wpbf.com) — A community Sickle Cell Awareness Walk & 3K is coming to Dreher Park in West Palm Beach on Oct. 3, honoring the life of Jordan A. Riley. Residents can join a 3K route, enjoy music and dancing, and support local sickle cell awareness and education efforts in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.
   

2. West Palm Beach property taxes are rising as public safety costs grow (miamiherald.com) — Property owners in West Palm Beach should prepare for about a 5% increase in their city property tax bills as commissioners finalize a new budget that boosts public safety and employee pay. While the tax rate will dip slightly, rising values and new construction mean the city will collect $12 million more, with big increases for police and fire-rescue budgets.

Forecasters expect a new update Thursday that could lift drought status for some Palm Beaches communities, but officials say more rain is still needed to fully restore water supplies and soil moisture.

Man prepares to run 100-plus miles around Lake Okeechobee after surviving gunshot to head (wpbf.com) — A West Palm Beach resident who survived a gunshot to the head is planning to run more than 100 miles around Lake Okeechobee next month to raise money for Urban Youth Impact, a free private school in West Palm Beach. His effort aims to spotlight the school's counseling, after-school care, and support for inner-city youth while inspiring others with his recovery.
