Florida high school reprimanded, head football coach suspended (on3.com subscription) — Wildwood High School’s football program has been fined, put on a year of administrative probation, and will lose head coach Rhett Caruthers for the kickoff classic and first four games of 2026 after FHSAA recruiting-related violations. State investigators cited unauthorized training on Wildwood’s field and a social media post featuring a transfer player in a Wildcats uniform before enrollment.

2. Man with Israeli driver's license arrested after clocking 104 mph west of Wildwood (villages-news.com) — A driver was arrested on State Road 44 just west of Wildwood after a deputy clocked his SUV at 104 mph in a 60 mph zone late Tuesday morning. Deputies say the 27-year-old, who presented an Israeli driver’s license, denied speeding but was charged with dangerous excessive speeding and taken to the Sumter County Detention Center on a $500 bond.

3. Church claims Sumter County violated Florida's Religious Freedom Act (villages-news.com) — A small Orthodox church in northwest Sumter County, not far from the Wildwood area, is suing the county after its special use permit was revoked this spring. Church leaders argue the loss of the permit, tied to code violations on their County Road 246 property, unlawfully burdens their ability to hold weekly worship under Florida’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

4. Wanted man arrested at City Fire outdoor bar after anonymous tip (villages-news.com) — Wildwood Police officers arrested a 68-year-old man at the outdoor bar of City Fire in Brownwood Paddock Square after an anonymous tip led deputies to confirm an outstanding Marion County warrant. The man, previously living in Summerfield, was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Sumter County Detention Center, where he’s being held without bond.
