• Surgeons called to Ga. construction site for complex worker rescue (firerescue1.com) — Emergency crews in Athens recently carried out a complex rescue after a construction worker fell into machinery during a concrete pour on the Athens Bypass near Atlanta Highway. Athens-Clarke County firefighters worked for over an hour alongside a trauma team from Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, though officials have not yet released the worker's identity or condition. 
• Historic WWII planes land in Athens this October (onlineathens.com) — World War II "warbird" planes are scheduled to visit Athens' Ben Epps Airport on October 24, offering locals a chance to see historic aircraft up close and even book flights. The stop is part of the Commemorative Air Force's 2026 Georgia Barnstorming Tour and coincides with a UGA football off-week, making it easier for fans to attend.
• Former WWE Champion Cody Rhodes Does The Ice Bucket Challenge For AEW's Rebel (wrestlinginc.com) — AEW plans a special "Rebel Heart" episode of Dynamite this September at Akins Ford Arena in Athens to honor wrestler Rebel and raise money for ALS groups. The show will tie into ALS research at UGA's Regenerative Bioscience Center and is expected to feature Rebel in attendance alongside major wrestling names supporting her fight.
