Clarke County Graduation Rate Hits Highest Level in More Than 15 Years (wuga.org) — Clarke County schools serving Athens students just hit their highest graduation rate in more than 15 years, climbing to 86.35% for the class of 2026. Clarke Central and Cedar Shoals posted strong gains across Black, Hispanic, English Learner, and special education students, even as the district still trails nearby Oconee and Barrow counties.
   

2. Adoptable (Official) Georgia Dogs for September 29, 2026 (gapundit.com) — Several dogs are ready for new homes through Athenspets and ACC Animal Services in Athens, including best buddies Rover and Octo, lap-loving Prissy, well-trained Army, and sweet, toy-loving Eileen. Each pup is described as friendly, house-trained or in training, and eager for affection, giving Athens families multiple chances to adopt a loving companion right now.
   

3. Athens police investigate dumping of headless goats, birds (onlineathens.com) — Athens-Clarke County police are investigating a disturbing case of decapitated goats and birds dumped along the North Oconee River Park near MLK Jr. Parkway and Willow Street. Officers say similar animal mutilations have occurred in Athens for years, raising concerns that the person responsible may be escalating, while animal control conducts necropsies to learn more.
   

4. QBs in the spotlight as Vanderbilt visits No. 2 Georgia (statenews.net) — Sanford Stadium in Athens will host No. 2 Georgia's matchup with Vanderbilt on Saturday, with both starting quarterbacks drawing heavy attention. Georgia's Gunner Stockton leads the SEC in completion percentage, while former Bulldogs commit Jared Curtis returns as Vanderbilt's rising star in a game where Georgia is heavily favored but wary of an upset bid.
