4 Douglas Co. Schools Get Free Teacher Supply Closets

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Two Douglas County organizations recently made free classroom supplies more accessible at four local schools through a new effort.

Members of the Community Diamonds Foundation and the Carrollton-Douglasville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity on Sept. 16 launched Teachers' Closet, Douglas County Schools said Friday.

The inaugural initiative benefitted Annette Winn Elementary School, Stewart Middle School, Douglas County High School and New Manchester High School, officials said.

Each school now has a stocked closet where teachers can pick up extra items for their classrooms, school officials said. The effort gives teachers an added resource inside their schools.

“Our teachers are grateful this resource is available when they need it," Casey Bethel, principal of New Manchester High, said. "We're thankful to the Community Diamonds Foundation and the Carrollton-Douglasville Alumni Chapter for thinking of our staff."

The groups plan to restock the closets later in the school year and expand the initiative to more schools in the future, school officials said. They will also maintain a strong presence at Annette Winn Elementary's Real Men Read program.

The Community Diamonds Foundation focuses on youth development and community service in Carroll and Douglas counties.

Meanwhile, the Carrollton-Douglasville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity has served locally since being chartered in 2005.
