These honorees now move into a multi-stage process that will select semifinalists, finalists, and ultimately the 2028 Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year, who will also represent the district in the state competition.
   

2. $3 rides in microtransit pilot extended in Gwinnett County (wsbtv.com) — Gwinnett County riders can keep using the Gateway85 microtransit pilot for $3 trips across the service zone, after commissioners voted to extend the program. Operating 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. most days, the app-based Ride Gwinnett service offers flexible, on-demand rides and a 90‑minute return feature that lets you make a round trip for a single $3 fare.
   

3. Man forgot dog tied outside in heat, pug later died (wsbtv.com) — A Gwinnett County man faces a felony animal cruelty charge after his pug died while tethered outside without shade or water during a hot afternoon in Suwanee. Police are using the case to remind residents that single-point tethering is illegal in the county and that owners must closely supervise pets in extreme heat.

The annual Atlanta Korean Festival returns to Duluth this weekend (roughdraftatlanta.com) — Gwinnett residents can dive into Korean culture this weekend at the Atlanta Korean Festival at Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth, running Sept. 19-20 with live K-pop, traditional performances, and a bustling food and K-beauty market. Organizers highlight Gwinnett County's fast-growing Korean community, especially in Suwanee, and invite locals to explore food, music, and vendors from across Georgia.
   

5. Advanced DNA testing leads to arrest in 2020 Gwinnett County cold case (fox5atlanta.com) — Advanced DNA testing has led investigators to charge a DeKalb County man in the 2020 killing of 21-year-old Tyler Hall inside his Gwinnett County home. The GBI says the case remains active and is asking Gwinnett-area residents to share any information that might clarify the motive or connections between the suspect and victim.
