Man Charged With Murder In Woman's Strangulation Death: Schaumburg PD

SCHAUMBURG, IL — A 56-year-old Schaumburg man has been charged with first degree murder in the strangulation of a woman he was dating at a home the two were sharing. Kevin D. Motykie, of the 1700 block of W. Weathersfield Way, is accused of the felony crime, a charge approved by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.

Katherine Torbick, 43, died from wounds sustained after being strangled in a homicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. During a well-being check at her home, police discovered Torbick deceased at around 9:20 p.m. April 30. A man, now identified as Motykie, was taken into custody after being found by police in the garage. Police said the two were dating.

Prior to police arrival, a person called 911 concerned about Torbick as they hadn't heard from her all day. Officers were aware of a recent domestic violence incident at the home involving the two. Police said Motykie had an arrest warrant for aggravated domestic battery to Torbick.

After forcing entry into the home, and finding Torbick deceased, police said there were multiple signs of trauma located throughout her body.

Motykie is due in court for a detention hearing Friday.
