2 Rescued After Sailboat Capsizes on Crystal Lake

Two people were safely evaluated after a sailboat overturns; officials credit life jackets and quick response for preventing injuries.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Two people were rescued after a sailboat capsized on Crystal Lake Wednesday evening.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded at 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday for a reported boating accident. Fire personnel arrived within six minutes and found two individuals in the water near the vessel, with the Lakewood Police Department also assisting on scene, according to a news release.

Upon investigation, crews determined the incident involved a capsized sailboat rather than a collision or boating accident. The occupants had attempted to right the vessel but were unsuccessful, fire officials said.
