Defense Seeks Preservation Of Evidence In Deadly Fox River Boat Crash Case

Defense attorneys for a Lisle man accused of a deadly drunken boating crash on the Fox River asked a McHenry County judge Tuesday to preserve evidence collected during the investigation.

Richard Stevenson, 45, is charged with reckless homicide and two counts of aggravated driving under the influence causing death after prosecutors said he was operating a boat at high speeds while intoxicated, killing a Des Plaines woman. Stevenson’s attorney, Patrick Walsh, requested the preservation of police videos, audio recordings,communications, body camera footage and other evidence gathered by agencies involved in the investigation, Shaw Local is reporting.

Judge Mark Gerhardt granted the requests, including the preservation of any blood evidence collected and DUI testing materials. Shaw Local is reporting the request is a fairly routine one in court matters and is meant to ensure evidence remains intact and available for examination or testing by the defense.
