Fireworks May Have Sparked House Fire; 1 Injured: Officials

The fire broke out Friday night in the 5000 block of Pyndale Drive in McHenry, fire officials said.

McHENRY, IL — One person was taken to the hospital after a fire heavily damaged a home Friday night in McHenry, according to fire officials.

Firefighters were dispatched at 10:21 p.m. to the 5000 block of Pyndale Drive for a reported structure fire, according to a news release from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District. Crews arrived about 4½ minutes later and found smoke coming from a single-family home.

Firefighters located the fire inside the residence and extinguished it within about 15 minutes while simultaneously searching the home. All occupants had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived. One resident was evaluated at the scene and transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a news release.

The home sustained significant damage and was deemed uninhabitable, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the McHenry Township Fire Protection District and the McHenry Police Department.

The Lake & McHenry County Scanner reported that a 911 caller initially indicated fireworks may have contributed to the blaze. Patch has reached out to the McHenry Township Fire Protection District for additional information about the cause but has not yet received a response.
