Missing Man Table Honors Those Who Never Returned At Deerfield Village Hall

DEERFIELD, IL — A table set for one at Deerfield Village Hall offers residents a place to remember those who have not returned from war.

The Missing Man Table is on display as the village prepares for its Field of Honor, which will bring 600 American flags to Jewett Park Nov. 9 through Nov. 13, spanning Veterans Day.

Each element of the table carries meaning, according to the village:

• White cloth: Symbolizes the purity of their service.
• Red rose: Honors their lives and loved ones.
• Yellow ribbon: Represents the continued commitment to account for the missing.
• Lemon and salt: Reflect hardship and tears.
• Inverted glass: Represents their absence.
• Candle: Serves as a light of hope.
• Empty chair: Reminds visitors that they are missing.

The village encourages residents to pause at the display and remember their sacrifice ahead of the Field of Honor.
