• Elgin's First United Methodist Church repair work finished 18 months after microburst (chicagotribune.com) — First United Methodist Church in downtown Elgin has finally completed $7.9 million in repairs after a 2025 microburst tore off much of its copper roof and damaged the steeple. Throughout the long restoration, the church kept key outreach programs running with help from other Elgin churches, local organizations, and residents, and is now adding new initiatives for foster youth and ESL learners.

• District U-46's proposed $1.03 billion budget uses surplus money to cover $208M deficit (chicagotribune.com) — School District U-46, which serves Elgin-area students, is proposing a $1.03 billion budget that spends $208.6 million more than it takes in by drawing down large reserve funds. Leaders say the deficit will help pay for Unite U-46 construction and new buses, but have not yet said how property taxes might be affected before the board's late-September vote.
