Why Elgin wants to put a roundabout at Larkin Avenue and Airlite Street (dailyherald.com) — Elgin is moving ahead with plans to replace the Larkin Avenue and South Airlite Street intersection with a roundabout, aiming to ease long waits and confusing signal patterns. The city council has approved nearly $450,000 for first-phase engineering toward a $7.9 million project, with construction targeted for 2030 and additional roundabouts planned or underway at Route 20/Reinking and Highland/North Lyle.
   

2. Elgin solar project powers 580 lower-income homes, local economic impact (chronicleillinois.com) — A new 22-acre solar farm in Elgin is now online, cutting energy charges by about 20% for 580 low- and moderate-income households and other local subscribers. The Bowes project will also generate millions in property taxes for U-46 and other governments, while donating $575,000 to Elgin Community College, Food for Greater Elgin, and other nonprofits, and creating dozens of union construction jobs.
   

3. South Elgin's Semaj Collier, who says 'I feel like I can do it all,' stars at receiver, cornerback and safety (chicagotribune.com) — South Elgin junior Semaj Collier is emerging as a true two-way star, leading the Storm in receiving while also playing cornerback, safety, and special teams through the first five games. Coaches and teammates praise his football IQ, leadership with younger players, and versatility, as he builds toward a potential Division I future and continues to anchor South Elgin's strong start.
   

4. 'Designed for the future': Elgin Community College celebrates opening of new Manufacturing and Technology Center (chicagotribune.com) — Elgin Community College has officially opened its $88 million Manufacturing and Technology Center, greatly expanding training options in advanced manufacturing, robotics, HVAC, welding, and green energy for local students. With nearly 600 students already enrolled, the 150,000-square-foot facility is designed to mirror real factory floors and help Elgin-area employers fill high-demand technical jobs for years to come.
   

5. In honor of 'Dolly Day,' Pace unveils little library at suburban stations (chicagotribune.com) — Pace is rolling out free little libraries at several suburban bus stations, with an installation planned soon at its Elgin facility once a shipping delay is resolved. Riders will be able to borrow and share books for themselves or their kids while commuting. The project, inspired by Dolly Parton's literacy work, aims to make bus trips more engaging and support reading at home.
