Elmhurst Cops Handle Disputes, Underage Party, Fireworks On Holiday Weekend

Officers charge two men in domestic battery cases. Medics were called in one instance, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving domestic battery, fireworks violations, an underage party, disorderly conduct, a loaded gun, aggravated DUI, a jewelry theft and shoplifting. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Domestic battery

  • A 47-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 200 block of West Butterfield Road was arrested about 11 p.m. on the Fourth of July at his home on two counts of domestic battery. Medics were called to the man's house, where the victim said his stepson grabbed his arm, leaving a bruise, police said. The 47-year-old was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
  • A 29-year-old Cary man was arrested about 4:30 a.m. Thursday on two counts of domestic battery and counts of resisting a police officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said the man struck a woman several times in the 200 block of South Monterey Avenue. Officers said they observed injuries. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

  • A 40-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 300 block of North Walnut Street was cited about 9 p.m. on the Fourth of July on a charge of setting off fireworks at his house. Around the same time, a 61-year-old Wheaton man was cited at Sunnyside Avenue and Prairie Path on a fireworks charge. Police said officers on patrol saw both men committing the violations.

Underage party

  • A 22-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in The Fynn apartment complex, 183 N. Addison Ave., was cited about 9 p.m. Sunday at his apartment on a charge of allowing people under the age of 21 to consume alcoholic beverages. Cited on charges of consumption of alcohol by a minor were an 18-year-old Willowbrook woman, a 19-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 500 block of North West Avenue, a 19-year-old Western Springs man and a 19-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 200 block of North Addison Avenue. Police said the suspects were drinking at the complex's pool.

Disorderly conduct

  • An 18-year-old Westchester man was arrested about 9:30 p.m. on the Fourth of July on charges of disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and possession of alcohol by a minor. Police said they responded to a fight at Myrtle and North avenues. The 18-year-old was drunk and struck a car parked car, police said. He was released.

Loaded gun

  • Adam Q. Howard, 32, of Dolton, was arrested about 7:30 p.m. on the Fourth of July at Roosevelt and Butterfield roads on charges of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana by a driver and improper lane usage. Howard was found with a loaded gun without a concealed carry license, police said. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Aggravated DUI

  • A 41-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 100 block of North Larch Avenue was arrested Sunday on a warrant charging aggravated DUI and driving an uninsured car. Police said the incident occurred April 20. The man turned himself in at the police station. He was released.

Jewelry theft

  • Someone entered a basement and stole jewelry during a June 27 graduation party in the 200 block of East Madison Street. The theft was reported five days later. An investigation is pending.

Shoplifting

  • A person stole several bottles of alcohol about 4 p.m. Thursday at Jewel, 944 S. York St. An investigation is pending.

Gunshot wound

  • A person was dropped off about 4 a.m. Sunday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, for a gunshot wound. The victim said he was shot in Chicago. Chicago police are investigating.

Fugitive driver

  • An officer tried to stop the driver of a white Jeep Grand Cherokee about 2:30 a.m. Thursday at Roosevelt Road and Route 83. The driver sped away. An investigation is pending.

DUI

  • A 29-year-old Bensenville woman was arrested about 12:30 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of South Route 83 on charges of DUI and possession of open alcohol. Police said the woman was found passed out behind the wheel. She was taken to the police station and then released.
