Woman Steals Credit Card In Elmhurst, Tries To Use It: Cops

Her crimes were caught on surveillance video, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In recent days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving burglary, DUI, disorderly conduct, slashed tires, battery and threats. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Burglary

  • Shakia A. Latimore-Hope, 21, of Chicago, was arrested Tuesday on charges of burglary and unlawful possession of a credit card. Police said a woman reported that her wallet was stolen about 5 p.m. May 8 at or near Hair Cuttery, 185 S. Route 83. Latimore-Hope was seen on surveillance footage stealing the wallet and then trying to buy three gift cards at Mariano's in Elmhurst, police said. After her arrest, Latimore-Hope was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Disorderly conduct

  • A 39-year-old Aurora man was cited about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on a disorderly conduct charge. Police said an officer saw the man urinating in the 100 block of North York Street. Shortly before midnight the same day, the man was charged with having open alcohol in a public place at York and Schiller streets. Both times, the man was released.
  • A 69-year-old woman who lives in the Extended Stay America hotel, 550 W. Grand Ave., was arrested about 9 p.m. June 29 on a charge of disorderly conduct by obstructing police. An officer saw the woman crossing the street near York Street and North Avenue without using a dedicated crosswalk. She provided the officer with false information, police said. She was released.

Slashed tires

  • Two tires were slashed on a car overnight Tuesday in a driveway in the 300 block of West Harrison Street. An investigation is pending.

Battery

  • Police were called Wednesday about a battery that occurred Nov. 11 in the 800 block of South Spring Road. An investigation is pending.

Threats

  • A resident in the 1200 block of South York Street told police Wednesday about receiving threatening text messages from a stranger.

DUI

  • A 34-year-old Berwyn man was arrested shortly after midnight June 29 in the 300 block of Oaklawn Avenue on charges of DUI and driving an uninsured car. He was taken to the police station and then released.
  • A 24-year-old Bensenville man was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of South Fair Street on a DUI charge. He was taken to the police station and then released.
