📰 News we're reading

1. Elmhurst Man Punches Neighbor's Window During Dispute: Police (patch.com) — Elmhurst police recently handled a string of incidents, including a York Street neighbor dispute where a resident allegedly punched a window, plus disorderly conduct near Kohl's on Route 83. Officers also made multiple arrests tied to drug possession, DUI, warrants, and fleeing police at familiar intersections like North Avenue, St. Charles Road, and York Street. Several suspects were released, while others were taken to DuPage County Jail.

2. Improve Elmhurst Debris Pickup After Storms To Help Residents: Officials (patch.com) — Elmhurst aldermen are pushing for a new curbside debris pickup program after severe storms, so residents wouldn't have to cut and bundle branches under current waste rules. They argue emergency sweeps, like those in nearby towns, would improve safety, protect storm drains, and especially help seniors and disabled neighbors. The City Council will soon decide whether to study the proposal further.

3. Elmhurst Continues Building Sidewalks Where Few Exist (patch.com) — Elmhurst is extending its sidewalk network on the northeast side, with a new nearly half-mile stretch planned for Van Auken Street between Crestview and North End by year's end. The project, part of a broader City Council push to fill sidewalk gaps, will start in October and cost about $584,000. Residents in Ward 3, which has the fewest sidewalks, should see safer walking routes soon.

4. Elmhurst U. Welcomes Newest Bluejays (elmhurst.edu) — Elmhurst University has kicked off the 2026–27 academic year by welcoming more than 700 new Bluejays to campus, including many first-generation and Illinois students. Newcomers settled into residence halls, joined orientation games and service projects, and heard President Troy VanAken's message about belonging, learning, and dreaming big. For Elmhurst residents, it means a livelier campus, more student volunteers, and fresh energy in the neighborhood.
