Apartment Building Fire In Crest Hill Happens At Night: Here's What's Firefighters Found Once They Went In

CREST HILL — The Lockport Township Fire Protection District rushed into action Sunday night to extinguish an apartment building that caught on fire in Crest Hill.

According to deputy fire chief Andrew Fitzgerald, at approximately 9:10 pm, the Lockport Township Fire Protection District responded to a reported structure fire in the 2300 block of Bicentennial Avenue of Crest Hill.

He said the initial crews found nothing showing from a 12-unit apartment building. However, upon entering the building, crews found a working fire in a first-floor apartment.

At that moment, Fitzgerald said his fellow crews made a quick attack and were able to extinguish the fire, limiting damage to the affected unit. All the building’s occupants were able to evacuate the building safely. Other than the affected apartment, no other occupants were displaced.

He noted that the incident was elevated to the full still alarm level, which brought in equipment and personnel from Bolingbrook, East Joliet, Homer, Northwest Homer, Plainfield, and Romeville either to the scene or to assist with covering the remainder of the fire district.

The Lockport Township Fire District Investigators and the Crest Hill Police are investigating the fire.
