Car With Ex-Girlfriend Shot Up Near Louis Mall In Middle Of Night: Joliet Police Nab Shooting Suspect

JOLIET, IL — More and more late-night Joliet shootings are taking place near the vicinity of the Louis Joliet mall. But in the latest shooting incident, Joliet police revealed that 21-year-old Miguel Navarro has been captured and booked into the Will County Jail.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday.

"A preliminary investigation determined that after the couple left the Louis Joliet Mall, they were allegedly confronted by a man later identified as Miguel Navarro, 21, Joliet, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz," English announced. "Navarro, who officers learned was the former boyfriend of the female
passenger, allegedly yelled threatening remarks before driving away."

He said the officers responded to the area of Plainfield Road and Voyager Lane following a report of shots fired. The caller reported that his vehicle had been struck by gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located the victim's Ford Mustang and observed damage from apparent gunfire to the passenger
side of the vehicle.

The driver and his adult female passenger were not injured.

English noted that Navarro had begun following the victims' vehicle. Near the intersection of Essington Road and Hennepin
Drive, Navarro allegedly fired multiple rounds at the Mustang before fleeing southbound on Essington Road.

As the investigation continued, officers developed information identifying a possible address for Navarro in the 1200 block of Oneida Street. Officers responded to the residence, where they
located the suspected Mercedes-Benz parked outside and took Navarro into custody without incident.

Following a consent search of the residence, officers recovered the upper receiver of a handgun and several handgun magazines, the Joliet police pointed out.

Navarro was transported to the Joliet Police Department, where he was processed on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and reckless conduct. He was later transferred to the
Will County Adult Detention Facility.
