Trouble At Heggie Park Sparks Violence, Joliet Police Arrest Man On 3 Aggravated Battery Charges

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Park District exists to provide the community with several places for enjoyment, to relax, to unwind, to exercise, enjoy the serenity of nature. But one Joliet man who was just let out of the Will County Jail now finds himself forbidden from setting foot on the property of Heggie Park, located along Williamson Avenue near Collins Street.

Prosecutors charged 31-year-old Juan Rodriguez Castaneda with three crimes of aggravated battery in connection with last week's violence over at Heggie's, 415 Williamson Ave. The violent behavior happened on Aug. 7 and Joliet police were responsible for making the arrest.

The complaint indicates that Rodriguez Castaneda struck his male victim in the face, that he then threw the man to the ground and kicked the man about the body.

In this particular case, a petition to deny pretrial release was not submitted by the Will County State's Attorney's Office, the judge's order noted. The judge warned the defendant that he must now avoid the victim whenever that man is present at Heggie Park.
